"A fine introduction to Winter's genius" (CD REVIEW)

Highlights from Paul Winter's albums from 1981-88 showcase both the lyrical voice he has developed on the soprano saxophone and the compositions that have set him apart as one of contemporary music's most singular voices.

The album's title song has become Winter's signature piece, and was inspired by his first close-up meeting with a wolf. Paul writes of that experience: "He looked at me directly with these deep amber eyes, and I sensed in them not only a curiosity about me, but also a profound intelleigence, and the wisdom of his thirty million years' lineage on the earth."

"Soprano saxophonist - composer - environmentalist - diplomat Paul Winter continues to be one of contemporary music's most singular voices. [..] Transcending all categories, [these] classic Winter performances whirl with musical grace, philosophic resonance, virtuosic musicality and good old-fashioned integrity". (JAZZ TIMES)
