DEEP VOICES documents the vast array of intriguingly complex and often mysterious sounds of humpback, blue and right whales, offering an experience, now rare, of how the seas and shores of the world used to sound.

The array of fascinating sounds on DEEP VOICES include serene and lovely humpback choruses echoing through the vast cathedral-like ocean spaces, the social noises of humpback herds nd the trumpeting and loud howls of a mock charge. Other sounds vary from the slow moans of blue whales (the largest animals that have ever lived), to right whales' tail slapping (which is a primitive form of communication), loud blows of courting whales, underwater breaths and snores to the unmatched peace of softly-sighing, deeply-sleeping whales.

Many of the recordings were made in the waters off Bermuda and Argentina by renowned marine biologist Dr. Roger Payne, producer of the album, whose work has been covered on recordings, in a series of television films, an Emmy-winning Charlie Rose interview and in his book 'Among Whales'. Roger's liner notes to DEEP VOICES describe his years of experience in the presence of whales and offer background information on how each of the cuts was made.
